Welcome to Women’s Resources

My name is Andrea. I developed paruresis when I was a child. Since I thought I was the only person in the world with this problem and that no one would be able to help me, I kept it a secret until I was an adult. It was not easy managing this condition while still attempting to live a fairly normal life! Paruresis made a lot of decisions for me over the years and robbed me of much freedom. It snowballed as the years went on, as is often the outcome of keeping a secret like this. When I found the IPA 20 years ago, I was amazed to find a group of people who knew exactly what I was going through. I attended my first workshop shortly after that. And that is when the snowball began to melt.

Though I am still a work in progress, I have taken it upon myself to help other women who are ready to start recovering. As a Health Coach, I help my clients come up with a plan for desensitizing from uncomfortable bathroom situations and then gradually exposing themselves to them. I keep them accountable, and provide ideas for managing from day to day. The sessions are done via zoom or video chat so it doesn’t matter where you are located. I also run a free zoom support group once a month where we share our difficulties, celebrations, questions and sometimes new ideas.

If you are a woman who is ready to take a step toward managing your own recovery and gaining freedom, I would be happy to provide you with a free consultation. I assure you that you are not alone in your journey.

Although the original IPATalk forum and women’s forum have been discontinued, we’re looking into ways to make a “Best of” publication available. In the meantime, check out the Forum page here for ways to connect with others through reddit.

Our women’s group continues to grow. We hope you’ll fill out the Contact the IPA form to be connected with us. You are not alone!

Best wishes,

Andrea Weyant
