How can I access historic IPA resources like “Free To Pee”?
How can I access historic resources like “Free To Pee?”
The IPA is celebrating 25 years of helping people with clinically shy bladders. Several very important resources (books, videos, audio recordings) created by the IPA or its friends are now out of print. That got me thinking about how to describe these valuable works. Are they classic? Are they historic? To qualify as a historic vehicle in Maryland, your vehicle must not have been “substantially altered, remodeled, or remanufactured from its original design, and must be a passenger vehicle, motorcycle or truck (with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less) and is 20 calendar years or older.” For example, we are just past the historic date for Christopher McCollough’s “Free To Pee: A self-help guide for men with Paruresis.” I’m at least calling it classic.
A second consideration for these works is that they used to provide a decent revenue stream for the IPA. As you probably know, we are a small, but mighty nonprofit and we certainly can’t give them away for free. So, what to do? We want our suffering brothers and sisters to have access to them. Here’s what we’re are in the process of doing: we are sharing these resources on our members only site members.paruresis.org. Simply make a donation of $100 or more each year, and access is yours! We ask that you honor that intention as you access them. Rather than share the downloads, please encourage others to become members of IPA. Currently available are:
- Free to Pee – Christopher McCullough – 2000
A Self-help Guide for Men with Paruresis; 100 pages - Shy Bladder Syndrome – Steven Soifer, et. al – 2001
Your Step-by-Step Guide to Overcoming Paruresis; 152 pages
Also read, Steve Soifer’s 10-Year Update to “Shy Bladder Syndrome” – 2012 - The Secret Phobia – Sylvia Typaldos, ed. – 2004
Stories from the private lives of people with paruresis, written by people with “Shy Bladder Syndrome.”; 78 pages
Don’t forget, the definitive and most up-to-date book is IPA Co-Founder Steve Soifer, et. al.’s The Secret Social Phobia, available in paperback and kindle versions on Amazon.
Happy reading and as Dave Kliss says, “Feel the Flow!”
