Dan Rocker started out just like you . . .
IPA President Dan Rocker started out just like you. What happened next is quite a story.
My name is Dan, and I’m writing to you today not as a board member of the International Paruresis Association (IPA), but as someone whose life was completely transformed by its work.
For years, I struggled with paruresis—shy bladder syndrome. You probably know how hard it is to explain how isolating and overwhelming it can be to live with this condition. Something that should be as simple as using a public restroom felt impossible, and it affected every part of my life—work, travel, relationships, and even my self-esteem. I felt alone, embarrassed, and hopeless.
As a brokerage professional who was actually trying to pee next door to the Twin Towers on 9/11 when the first plane hit – and someone who lost friends that day – I was motivated to take a hard look at the situation I was in with my shy bladder. Then I found the IPA. Through its resources, workshops, and supportive community, I learned that I wasn’t alone. I discovered tools and strategies to manage my anxiety, and for the first time in years, I felt like I could take back control of my life. The IPA gave me hope when I thought there was none. In fact, it spurred on my career change, so that now I help fellow sufferers in my own psychology practice.
But here’s the thing: none of this would have been possible without the generosity of people like you. As 2024 comes to a close, I’m asking you to consider making a gift to the IPA. Your support will help it continue to:
- Host workshops that change lives, just like mine.
- Advocate for greater awareness and understanding of paruresis.
- Provide free resources and support to people who feel like they have nowhere else to turn.
Will you help that future someone by making a gift today?
Right now, your gift will go even further. If you donate before December 31, first-time contributions (as well as past donors’ increases) will be matched $2-for-$1 by a generous donor—tripling the impact of your support! And your donation is tax-deductible for 2024.
Click here to make your gift now.
I can’t thank the IPA enough for what they’ve done for me, and I know there are so many others out there who need their help. Your gift could be the reason someone else finds hope, healing, and a path forward. Thank you for considering this opportunity to change lives.
With gratitude,
Dan Rocker, LCSW, MA
A Grateful Member of the IPA Community, and IPA President
P.S. Every gift makes a difference! If you have any questions about the IPA or how your support helps, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to share more about my journey. dan@paruresis.org
